Data Solutions and Support
D2I empowers the UT community to make data-informed decisions by building analytical capabilities, driving BI adoption, and cultivating a thriving ecosystem of data practitioners across campus.
We don't take a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you need access to institutional data, a clearer picture of what data exists, access to ready-to-use dashboards, or a thought partner to help you build something new, we'll do our best to help you figure out what is possible.
What Problem Are You Trying to Solve?
I need access to institutional data.
Currently there are several methods of accessing data from a variety of data domains. Depending on your role and access rights, you might access institutional data via Cognos, Reporting Toolkit, Advisors Toolkit, or through various CSU-managed systems.
I need analytical products my team can use today.
D2I hosts a suite of campus analytics dashboards covering key institutional areas including student enrollment, faculty data, course metrics, financial aid, and more. These are available through the Insights Service to any UT faculty or staff member with an EID, with no additional setup required.
I need to understand what data are in the UT Data Hub.
Before you build, you need to know what exists. Alation is UT's metadata catalog and data documentation platform. Use it to explore available data sources, browse data definitions, and understand the institutional data landscape, so you can make informed decisions about what to build and where to start.
I need access to the UT Data Hub.
The Data Hub is UT Austin's centralized data platform, connecting your CSU to academic and institutional data from multiple university systems in one secure, governed location. You can query data directly and connect using the tools your team already uses: Tableau, Power BI, Python, R, and more.
Note: Access to the Data Hub is being provisioned on a case-by-case basis, at the CSU level at this time. Inquire with insights@utexas.edu for more information.
How to Get Started
D2I's Enablement team aims to offer consultation and coaching to help your CSU define and develop the right analytical approach for your needs. Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the Data Hub and the Insights Service?
The Data Hub is the underlying data platform where institutional data lives and where CSUs build their own analytics. The Insights Service is a collection of ready-made dashboards built and maintained by D2I, available to any UT faculty or staff member with an EID. Many users will use both.
Do I need to have highly technical skills to work with D2I?
No. D2I works with CSUs at all levels of technical maturity. Our Enablement team is specifically focused on meeting your unit where it is and building capability over time.
What if we already have analysts on our team?
D2I can support your analysts directly. Whether that means providing Data Hub access, consulting on data models, or connecting your team with the broader UT data community, we're a resource for technical users too.
How quickly can we get access to data?
Timelines vary depending on the service. Insights Service dashboards are available immediately with an EID. Data Hub spoke provisioning requires a scoping process and onboarding. Reach out to insights@utexas.edu to discuss timing for your situation.
Who do we contact if we're not sure what we need?
