In August, the Strategic Relations and Engagement Office (SREO) completed the transition of Workday training from Instructor-led Training (ILT) courses to a curriculum of always in session Self-Paced courses via UT Learn
The Workday at UT Curriculum offers UT’s HR professionals and administrative systems users nine courses covering the full employee life cycle in Workday. The release of the Workday at UT Curriculum is the latest in a series of initiatives by Enterprise Technology’s Engagement and Experience (E&E) division to improve the support and service delivery experience for the UT community.
Workday Training began in 2018 with a full schedule of classroom-based courses each week to prepare future users for Workday’s go-live on Nov. 1, 2018. Over time, courses were reviewed and shortened allowing classroom training to continue post-go-live on a reduced schedule until March 2020.
Reacting to COVID and the move to remote work, the Workday Training team quickly shifted to holding ILT sessions over video conferencing and by April were offering 4-6 virtual ILT sessions each week. The team also began work on their first self-paced course, Workday Fundamentals, to help those new to Workday prepare for more in-depth training. As workstyles shifted over the next few years, it became clear that the ILT model with its fixed schedule of courses was no longer meeting the training needs of campus and a project to create self-paced versions of all existing ILT courses began. However, this would not be a simple lift and shift.
During the transition to self-paced learning, each course was reviewed, updated, and optimized for UT Learn in a process involving our Workday training experts and instructional designer, experienced in online learning. This meant that some courses were restructured or combined and even lead to the creation of an entirely new offering, to bring the curriculum to its current set of nine courses. Each course was also tested by the Digital Accessibility Center (DAC) to ensure that they would meet the needs of all staff at UT.
The move to UT Learn not only means that the Workday at UT Curriculum of self-paced courses is ready whenever staff have time to learn but also provides the following benefits.
Managers can assign training to their employees.
- After taking Workday Fundamentals, courses may be taken in any order and easily revisited in the future.
Learners receive credit immediately and can track progress via their UT Learn transcript.
Workday at UT Training via UT Learn joins the Workday Documentation Library and Enterprise Technology Support Center in providing the UT community with a complete Workday support experience.
