CRSP Advances Governance, Onboarding, and CMMC Readiness

The Information Security Office published the University’s Controlled Research Security Policies, establishing the first comprehensive CUI policy framework aligned to NIST SP 800-171. OVPR advanced CRSP onboarding and Technology Control Plan workflows, while the CRSP Steering Committee standardized onboarding through the Secure Research Environment, MOU, and technology roadmap.
 
Seven of 13 funded CRSP positions are onboarded or filled across Enterprise Technology, ISO, and OVPR. CRSP is supporting 16 identified controlled research projects, with seven projects actively progressing through the onboarding pipeline.
 
CRSP begins its Redspin C3PAO gap assessment on September 9, evaluating all 110 CMMC Level 2 practices and 320 assessment objectives. Results will inform remediation planning and preparation for the University’s targeted CMMC Level 2 certification effort while governance, onboarding processes, and program demand continue to mature.
 

Claude and ChatGPT Adoption Accelerates Across the University

Campus-wide adoption of both Claude and ChatGPT continued to accelerate following expanded access to secure, enterprise AI tools. Usage and growth across both platforms are nearly equal and reflects increasing integration of AI into academic, research, and administrative workflows throughout the University.

Claude: Daily active users increased 63% twelve days into the semester, request volume nearly doubled to more than 170,000 daily requests at it's September 2 peak, and adoption grew from under 6% to more than 7% of assigned seats. The growth is broad-based across Chat, Cowork, and Claude Code, and the pattern (weekday-heavy, weekend-light, each week outpacing the last) points to genuine habit formation rather than launch-week novelty.

ChatGPT: 5,876 active users with with 6,951 enabled users generated more than 575,000 messages. Adoption is also deepening beyond basic chat: Projects usage increased 37%, app and connector interactions increased 64%, and Skills usage increased 338%. Users generated more than 2.5 million tool interactions across search, coding, retrieval, data analysis, document creation, and image generation, while integrations with Outlook, GitHub, Google Drive, Gmail, SharePoint, and calendars accounted for more than 466,000 interactions. Overall, the data indicates both strong growth in adoption and a continued shift toward more advanced, workflow-integrated use of AI across the University.

Enterprise Technology continues to provide centrally supported AI platforms that offer secure alternatives to unmanaged consumer tools. Adoption of both Claude and ChatGPT remains nearly equal, demonstrating sustained demand for enterprise AI capabilities and workflow-integrated productivity tools across the University.


AI Gateway Expands Hands-On AI Learning Across Fall 2026 Courses

Enterprise Technology’s AI Gateway is supporting Fall 2026 instruction by providing secure, course-specific access to leading AI model APIs. Students are building large language model applications, developing agentic workflows, fine-tuning models, analyzing data, and applying AI across health, software engineering, finance, accounting, and data science.

The AI Gateway is powering hands-on AI learning across five Fall 2026 courses by providing students with secure, course-specific access to APIs for leading AI models and services. Through these workspaces, students are building large language model applications, developing agentic workflows, fine-tuning models, analyzing data, and applying AI to disciplines including software engineering, data science, health, finance, and accounting, giving them practical experience with the same technologies increasingly used in industry.

Current Fall 2026 courses using the AI Gateway include INF 385T: AI in Health, INF 385M: Database Management, INF 385T: Post-Training of Large Language Models, INF 385T: Language Models and Agentic Workflows, and INF 385T: Building Large Language Model Applications.

Upgrade of BACS readers

The Infrastructure EPSS team completed the campus-wide upgrade of all 2,400 BACS readers, replacing the HID iClass readers with the new HID Signo readers.

This upgrade paves the way for full use of mobile credentials on BACS readers under the Enterprise Technology Digital ID program. Additionally, the new readers make troubleshooting and upgrades significantly easier for our technicians, and enable more secure communication of badge data between the reader and the access control panels.

This marks the completion of a four-month project spanning 164 buildings across Main Campus and PRC, accomplished with support from the ET Operations and Engagement and Experience teams.


New Canvas Information Page and AI Campaign Drive Strong Digital Engagement and Adoption

The Marketing and Communications team launched and promoted the new Canvas information page, refreshed the Tech for Students page experience, and supported the relaunch of the AI tools portfolio. These efforts improved resource discoverability, user experience, and awareness of key Enterprise Technology services.

ET websites generated 210,117 sessions in August. The new Canvas information page received more than 180,000 sessions, while the AI page and homepage each exceeded 8,000 sessions. AI-focused campaigns generated 4,121 LinkedIn impressions, 11.2K Instagram views, and more than 2,000 YouTube views.

The Communications team partnered service owners to create streamlined, action-oriented content experiences. The Canvas information page demonstrated strong adoption following launch, the refreshed Tech for Students page successfully supported orientation activities, and the AI portfolio relaunch increased engagement with University AI resources.
