UT Austin offers a distinctive program designed for individuals with an aptitude for software development, requiring no prior experience. This immersive on-the-job training opportunity will equip you with the skills to become a proficient Software Developer. Upon successful completion, you'll join dynamic project teams that:

  • Configure cloud-based systems
  • Design, develop, and deploy administrative and business applications for the University
  • Serve as technology and business process consultants to departments
  • Analyze, improve, and streamline processes
  • Document systems and processes
  • Use innovative technological solutions to solve business problems

Required Qualifications

Applicants must pass an aptitude test and submit a Software Developer employment application. We seek individuals who are enthusiastic about working collaboratively in a team-oriented work environment where teamwork is essential.

How to Apply

Step 1: Schedule Your Aptitude Test

Visit the Software Developer Aptitude Test to schedule your test. To enroll, you must have a UT EID. If you need to create or reset your UT EID, please visit the UT EID Self-Service Tools website.

Important Details About the Test:

  • The test is not a coding exercise and assumes no prior programming experience.
  • It is timed and proctored.
  • You must achieve a grade of "A" to apply for the position.
  • The test can be taken once every 24 months.
  • Allocate at least 2 hours for the test.

Step 2: Check Your Score

Your grade will be posted online (UT EID required) within a week of your test date. If you achieve an “A,” you are qualified to apply for any available Software Developer Trainee positions posted on the UT Jobs site.
