We are delighted to announce that Mark Barber, Associate Director, has been honored with the 2025 Outstanding Supervisor Award. This recognition highlights Mark's exceptional career and his steadfast commitment to the University.
Mark has been a part of UT for almost 25 years. Starting as a developer, he has grown into one of the most dependable leaders, becoming a manager, an Assistant Director, and now an Associate Director. Throughout his tenure, he has supported a wide array of IT systems and business areas, including Student Financials, Web Payments, Core Financials, Purchasing, Contracts & Grants, and Budget among other things.
Mark has been instrumental in forming and shaping high-performing teams, often during times of great transition. He has led groups through major reorganizations—bringing clarity in times of uncertainty, and fostering unity and direction during very challenging times.
Beyond project management and execution—Mark’s true gift lies in developing people. He has trained and mentored countless staff members, many of whom have gone on to become leaders themselves. He was key in the creation and implementation of career development paths in the organization, which has not only guided individual growth, but also helped increase engagement and retain top talent across the board.
Mark is not someone who ever seeks the spotlight. He leads by example, quietly and consistently raising the bar. Whether guiding a project to successful completion, offering mentorship, or spearheading training initiatives, Mark’s focus is always on lifting others and leaving things better than he found them.
Congratulations, Mark, on this outstanding achievement! For a complete list of the 2025 Outstanding Supervisor Award recipients, visit the 2025 Outstanding Supervisor Award page.
